2.    Principle of LiDAR Remote Sensing

3.    LiDAR Sensors and Data Characteristics

4.    LiDAR Data Processing and Software

5.    Applications of LiDAR Remote Sensing

About the Authors:

Pradeep K. Garg, is currently serving as Emeritus Fellow in Geospatial Engineering, Civil Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. He completed B.Tech (Civil Engg.) in 1980 and M.Tech (Civil Engg) in 1982 both from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee). He is a recipient of Commonwealth Scholarship Award for completing Ph.D. from University of Bristol (UK), and Commonwealth Fellowship Award to carry out post-doctoral research work at University of Reading (UK). He joined Department of Civil Engg at IIT Roorkee in 1982, and became Head of the Civil Engg Department in 2015, and then Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun from 2015-2018. Prof. Garg has published more than 310 technical papers, and undertaken 28 research projects and 95 consultancy projects. He has guided 73 M.Tech and 29 Ph.D. Thesis, and authored text books on (i) Remote Sensing, (ii) Geoinformatics, (iii) Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, (iv) Digital Land Survey, and (v) Surveying and Geomatics Engg, and edited five books. He has developed e-contents and Virtual Labs under NPTEL for the benefits of students.  He is a life member of 24 professional societies, including Fellow member of 8 societies.

Arti Tiwari is a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Maryland and a Research Scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, USA. She holds degrees in Electronics and Communication Engineering (B.Tech), Geomatics Engineering (M.Tech, IIT Roorkee), and a Ph.D. from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Her research focuses on developing object-based image procedures combined with LiDAR and orthophoto data for classifying and differentiating various ground features. She has developed and implemented object-based algorithms to address the pressing challenges posed by the heterogeneity of land use and land cover spaces. Her particular interests include LiDAR, Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA), Remote Sensing, Geomatics, and Deep Learning, with experience in using various types of imagery, including Drone, Multispectral, Hyperspectral, and All-Sky camera images. She has published a number of research articles in several peer-reviewed (Q1) journals.
